This morning for breakfast we decided to try a new smoothie recipe.  We were skeptical because it called for equal parts of milk and water, but we gave it a try anyway. The actual recipe called for 1/3 cup of strawberries and 1/3 cup of raspberries, but Christian had already decided that he wanted to use the frozen mixed berries that were in the freezer.  It was the perfect opportunity to throw in a quick summertime math lesson with fractions.  So he learned that 1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3.  I'm happy anytime we can sneak in math and make it practical and fun.  Cooking is obviously something that Christian is very interested in so I will be sure to start to try to incorporate more math learning into his cooking experiments.  This could be a fun learning and not boring and forced.  Wish me luck!! The kids liked the smoothie and drank it all gone, but Christian said that he liked smoothies better with all milk instead.  He thought that the smoothie was too...

Raspberry Smoothie

In this Youtube cooking show Christian made a Raspberry Smoothie.  It gets a little hard to hear at one point when he turns on the blender and attempts to talk over the noise, but he did awesome!

Mixed Berry Yogurt Smoothie

Yup, that's right... another smoothie!  Christian has absolutely fallen in love with his daily smoothies.  It has been a great way for him to get his servings of fruits and dairy to start each day and has taken the place of cereal.  Today was a snow day and Christian slept in so he had his smoothie with his pizza burger for lunch.  Of course he made it himself. Earlier in the week we took a mini shopping trip to Walmart where Christian picked out some frozen mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries & blueberries) and picked out some Astro yogurt.  The 650g container was on sale for $1 so we bought up a few.      Mixed Berry Yogurt Smoothie   1/2 cup 1% milk 1/2 cup yogurt 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries 1 small banana Christian loved his smoothie and said that it was extra creamy.  There were seeds from the blackberries and raspberries, but that didn't seem to bother him any.  I love how quick and e...

Banana Raspberry Smoothie

Holding true to our plan Christian had a smoothie for breakfast this morning served with toast with raspberry preserves.  I was determined to serve him a healthy breakfast, but getting up and jumping into a new routine that didn't involve a bowl and boxed cereal isn't as easy as it sounds.  I am so not a morning person so I needed to get my game on.  My little trick was to set the blender, measuring cup and banana on the kitchen counter last night before bedtime so that it was all at my finger tips this morning.  All I had to grab was the milk from the fridge & raspberries from the freezer. The recipe was adapted from a recipe that I had gotten from my friend, Marlene.  It was very simple and although it was early in the morning Christian was eager to jump right in and work the controls on the blender.  :)     B anana Raspberry Smoothie 4 fl oz Milk 1/4 medium banana 1/4 cup frozen raspberries Place all ingredient into a blender an...
