Torbay Farmers Market

Today I went to the Torbay Farmers Market with my family to buy vegetables.  It was a beautiful sunny day.  When we got there I saw a farmer with vegetables that were in baskets and plastic bins.  Before we bought the veggies we had some fun.

We went inside and looked around.  Mom and dad sampled the sweet and sour turnip & carrot relish.  They liked it and bought a jar.  I waited until we got home to taste it.  It smelled sour.  I tasted it and it was too, too sour!  I think they put too much vinegar and not enough sugar.  Look at my face it looks sour just like the relish.  I look funny.

While we were still at the market we went and had some lunch.  We ate healthy all week and today I had a treat.  The men had a little food trailer with pizza cones, chips, and candy bars.  It had a microwave and speakers too.  I had a BBQ chicken pizza cone.  It was cool!  The pizza dough was shaped as an ice cream cone.  They stuffed BBQ chicken, cheese and sauce into the cone.  They heated it in the microwave. I found out they put spicy in the sauce, but it was still good.  Here is a picture of me with the pizza cone.  I think I will try to make this myself on my youtube video, but I will not have it spicy.

I also had cupcake on a stick.  It was a mini chocolate cupcake with blue icing and sprinkles and one M&M on top.  It smelled awesome and looked delicious!  I gobbled it up in two bites.  There was no sour in this cupcake so that was good.  It was all sweet.
Here is me and my brother, Alexander.  He was tired and fussy so he wouldn't smile for the picture.

Before we left we went back to the farmer and bought kale and I picked out a bunch of beet.  I wonder what we can make with it.  I will talk to my dad to see what I can make with the beet.  I hope he will let me use the stove for the first time.

What is a healthy breakfast?

Ok so I have to admit that breakfast at our household during school days had been very rushed and not so healthy. I would always let Christian pick out the oh so common cereal box that we all see advertised on TV. I'd pour a heap of sugary cereal with 2% milk into a bowl and set it on the table. I've obviously been slacking and taking the easy, unhealthy way out. Breakfast is referred to as the most important meal of the day, but somehow I don't think that a bowl full of sugar is what they are talking about. Breakfast is supposed to refuel my child and help boost his brain power for a busy day at school. Recently I've been making a better attempt to start Christian's day out with a healthier meal. I am keeping on my track of incorporating more fruits and because we have a super-sized box of cornflakes in the pantry I figured we'd have to use them up first. At a closer look at the labeling though I realized that the cornflakes aren't so bad compared to

Teethering just a little, but I have an excuse!

This week has not worked out as planned. I have been sick. I am currently recovering from strep throat and although I hadn't been able to eat most of the week... the rest of the family needed to! The preplanned menu was tossed out and Millard was given the go-ahead to just do 'whatever'. We resorted back to cereal box breakfasts and canned soups, mac & cheese, and sandwiches were a quick easy fix for lunch and dinner. All in all I think we did good to get this far without any seriously greasy, deep-fried take-out. Our only take out meal was Subway... which doubled as dinner one night and lunch the next day. I am starting to feel better after seeing the doctor. I am back on my feet and ready to make a meal tonight. It is just going to be spaghetti & meatball with Millard's pre-made, frozen meatballs and a jar of Ragu. I am going to attempt to make a green salad to go with it, but who knows if I'll make it that far.

Mixed Berry Yogurt Smoothie

Yup, that's right... another smoothie!  Christian has absolutely fallen in love with his daily smoothies.  It has been a great way for him to get his servings of fruits and dairy to start each day and has taken the place of cereal.  Today was a snow day and Christian slept in so he had his smoothie with his pizza burger for lunch.  Of course he made it himself. Earlier in the week we took a mini shopping trip to Walmart where Christian picked out some frozen mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries & blueberries) and picked out some Astro yogurt.  The 650g container was on sale for $1 so we bought up a few.      Mixed Berry Yogurt Smoothie   1/2 cup 1% milk 1/2 cup yogurt 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries 1 small banana Christian loved his smoothie and said that it was extra creamy.  There were seeds from the blackberries and raspberries, but that didn't seem to bother him any.  I love how quick and easy smoothies are and love even more that Christian
